The 5 Best Anime Openings of Spring 2021

Exciting original series, hyped-up sequels, fresh and tasty memes... we love everything that comes with a new season of anime, but one of our absolute favorite parts is letting the flood of opening themes wash over us so that we can pick out the best ones and play them over and over again until we’re reciting the lyrics in our dreams. Veteran bop machine Black Clover, unfortunately, won’t be making an appearance this time because its anime is on hiatus, but we’ve still got plenty of terrific tunes for you to add to your playlist. Let’s get started!

Dragon Goes House-Hunting First Impressions – A Real Estate Anime with a Real Knack for Humor

Spring 2021 has no lack of worthy anime to choose from, but if you’re a comedy fan (particularly one with a love for nostalgic video games), then you have to make room on your watchlist for Dragon, Ie wo Kau. (Dragon Goes House-Hunting). It’s about a young dragon named Letty whose family kicks him out of the den for being so cowardly and useless, leaving him to fend for himself in a JRPG-style world where most people would sooner kill him for epic loot drops than help him find a place to stay.

Beastars Season 2 Review – More Beastly Than Ever Before

Despite its rather high barrier to entry (all-CG animation, anthropomorphic animal characters, Netflix exclusive, etc.), the first season of Beastars exceeded expectations and garnered a sufficient fan following. That’s because, once you look past the initial oddness, you’ll find a deeply intriguing story about good people just trying to live in a fundamentally hostile world. But does season 2 live up to the demographic-shaking appeal of its predecessor? Let’s see!

5 Winter 2021 Anime That Didn’t Quite Hit the Mark

The Winter 2021 anime season had some truly outstanding shows, but unfortunately, not all of the anime we were looking forward to watching lived up to our expectations. Solid narratives that rushed themselves towards the end, shaky adaptations of far superior source material, inexperienced or overworked studios biting off more than they can chew... for any number of reasons (some of which definitely had to do with the pandemic delaying or canceling many anime from last year), this season just wasn’t as solid as it could’ve been. Here are five Winter 2021 anime that didn’t quite hit the mark.

At the end of the special “Inherited Soul” event that aired on April 4th, it was revealed that Stone Ocean – the sixth part of the legendary JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure series – would finally get its own anime adaptation! Fans had been waiting close to two years since the end of Golden Wind for such an announcement, and with that snazzy concept art and the news that up-and-coming voice actress/JoJo superfan Fairouz Ai would be voicing Jolyne, the hype train quickly reached terminal velocity. We’re not exactly sure when the anime will premiere (probably sometime in 2022), but until then, here are our top five moments that we can’t wait to see animated in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean!

Kemono Jihen Review – Cool Concept, But Frustratingly Forgettable

Kemono Jihen is a supernatural mystery story set in modern-day Tokyo. It follows the exploits of the Inugami Detective Agency, a secretive group populated by kemono (yokai/demons that can take human forms) who investigate strange happenings related to rogue members of their own species. Their newest member is Kabane, a half-kemono who possesses a powerful stone called a “life stone” and desperately wants to find his missing parents who left it with him. It sounds like a neat little concept on paper, but does this anime do anything new and exciting that you can’t find elsewhere? Let’s find out!
